Both structures provide a polyurethane cutting surface. The key difference is how the cover is retained on the anvil cylinder, affecting installation, stability and changeover work.
Steel-backed covers
The polyurethane layer is combined with a metal backing and retained by the machine's matching slot, hook or mechanism. Backing thickness and end geometry must match the cylinder.
Finger-lock or quick-lock covers
Interlocking profiles at the cover ends connect after the cover wraps around the cylinder. Installation can be direct, but circumference, thickness, tooth geometry and direction require an accurate match.
Structures are not automatically interchangeable
The cylinder, locking groove and original design control the available route. Any conversion should be reviewed by the equipment team before ordering.

Match the machine structure before selecting material and hardness. A structural mismatch can prevent installation or lead to movement and seam damage.
